QBT Done and Dusted!

What a fantastic weekend QBT 2021 was! It was great to have QBT back after the event was cancelled last year due to Covid-19.

NZISA had all eight Indian Sports Clubs represented with both Men’s and Women’s hockey teams entered, which is a great achievement by all involved.

The weekend started off with good hockey weather which saw the day run smoothly. Sunday afternoon saw rain for most of the day which did cause delays on Turf 2 but did see most games played. Sunday night was the QBT Social held at the Pukekohe Indian Association hall, where again a great turnout was had. Good food and a great atmosphere provided the platform for all players and spectators to relax and socialise. Monday saw light rain but it did not affect any games. All days saw a great turn out from local and out of town supporters which was great to see.

We were treated to a great Men’s A final where both Auckland A and Pukekohe A battled fiercely against each other. A full time score of 1-1 saw the game go to shootouts, with Auckland being victorious 4-2. In the Men’s B competition, Auckland B took out a 1-0 win against North Harbour. In the Women’s competition we saw history in the making with Bay of Plenty winning this for the first time ever! Well done to all the victorious teams.

NZISA would like to thank hosts Pukekohe Indian Sports Club, who took on a big risk in hosting QBT this year with the many unknowns Covid poses. We also give a big thank you to Hockey New Zealand, Richard Baggs and Tournament Controller and all the umpires for their hard work over QBT. Thanks for Counties Manukau Hockey Association for their fantastic facilities. Last but not least, a big thank you to all the players for showing great passion and pride for your respective clubs, and to all the loyal and passionate supporters which are made up of club members, family and friends. It is such a privilege seeing all the hard work, support and attendance provided by the above mentioned parties. We hope everyone made it home safely after the tournament.

QBT will be hosted by Christchurch Indian Sports Club in 2022 and we look forward to seeing you all attend this event in Christchurch.
